Academics
Welcome! In here I will introduce to you my past Schools and CCA history.
Sembawang Primary School - 2005 to 2010
I studied at Sembawang Primary School in year 2005 and graduated in 2010. I have joined several CCAs, my first CCA was Science Club in Primary 3, CCA was compulsory and it was to be attended every Friday. I had to choose one, so my friends and I decided to join Science Club, it was a lot of fun the teachers always had different and new mind-blowing experiments for us to explore. Such as modifying a paper plane so that it can fly in a different direction. Leaving an egg in a jar filled with vinegar, once the egg shell is soaked it will dissolve and turn the egg bouncy. We also often get to go to Yishun Ring Secondary School to tour their Science Lab and use their equipment for our experiments, the most memorable experience was to toss an egg down from high floor and the condition was to make sure the egg isn’t cracked. To do that, we must fill different protective layers for the egg with given materials such as scorch tape, chopsticks, plastics and etc. Most of us were able to make an unique protection for the egg and complete the task, the process was the most fun for the most part of the entire game.
My second CCA was Badminton in Primary 4, it was conducted after school every Tuesday and Thursday. We were thought basic drills and footwork training, also learnt the proper way to serve and hit the ball. In Primary 5, I joined the school’s team and represented my primary school to play for inter-school tournaments, we achieved 4th place in North-Zone tournament and unfortunately, we weren’t able to get a medal as it was reserved for the 3rd placement, but most important after all we learnt from our mistakes and had fun in the process.
Woodlands Secondary School - 2011 to 2014
After Graduating from Sembawang Primary School, I went to study at Woodlands Secondary School in 2011. The school is very near my house and this actually enabled me to sleep 15-20 minutes more before going to school as I could literally arrive in under 5 minutes time compared to Sembawang Primary School I had to wake up 30 minutes earlier. Apart from the sleeping part, I felt that probably the difference between my past primary school from secondary school is that secondary school have longer school hours, more commitments such as having more subjects which result in more homework and assignments being given. On the bright side, we also had lots of learning journey trips and trips like that let us take a break from our studies and enjoy ourselves.
For my CCA, I was in Badminton. The trainings compared to primary school was more advanced, increased drills, foot-works and more specialised training.
After Secondary 2, we had to choose our addition subjects. I have chosen Foods Nutrition, History and Physics, the reason is for history over geography is that history is very similar to social study unlike geography which is like a totally different subject. For science, I chose physics over biology as I felt that physic is a lot similar to maths and in fact we just need to know the formulas unlike biology requires us to memorize a lot of terms and theories. Lastly for Foods Nutrition, there are no particular reasons as I have scored pretty well during secondary 2 so I thought of giving it a go.
After secondary school the path for normal academic batch was either Poly Foundation Programme(PFP), DPP(Direct Poly Programme) or Secondary 5. With my results I went on to the DPP and studied ITE College West.
ITE College West 2015-2016
I studied Higher Nitec for Cyber and Network Security in ITE College West. The timetable is very messy example that I can have a lesson in the morning and after that break until afternoon with interval of like 2 to 3 hours time unlike primary and secondary school where the timetable is very structured. Also, going of washrooms we do not need to ask the teachers for permissions. We get to do a lot of hands-on with real equipment, also a lot of theories to remember.
For CCA, I wanted to join Badminton again but uh the schedule is too late, 6pm to 9pm I mean after lessons is already like 5pm to 6pm..? so eh no thanks. So I joined Library Club, this CCA is extremely flexible. To complete 2 hours per week, meaning 2 hours for a week worth of attendance wow. But little did I know, for DPP students to advance to Polytechnic they only take in the Raw GPA, which CCA points and Rank will not matter. P.S. I didn’t show up after that day. ;)
